I don't see why people should downvote you for asking based on your perspective. I have heard the opposite to you. And no, Palestine does not "simply want Israeli's destroyed".

There have been discussions, but both sides have to compromise, both sides have thrown around rhetoric. When Palestinian authorities (Hamas I think) said they wanted to negotiate in Egypt, Israel said they would not negotiate with terrorists, automatically shutting down any chance of negotiations. There were a lot of accusations of cease-fires being broken, like when Hamas captured those 2 soldiers but it turned out to be a lie (I think they died before the cease-fire).

The Palestinian side wants to negotiate. Some of the more extreme groups, like Hamas, hold rigidly onto the idea of a united Palestine (Israel, one-state) without the hated occupiers/invaders (Jews) & they throw hateful rhetoric around because of that. Most would like to return to the 1960's border, but on the other hand Israel doesn't want this, partially because that includes half of Jerusalem.

So the way I see it, some Israeli political figures & some Palestinian figures are being dicks, they don't want peace & are willing to throwaway lives because they think their people/religion should have the land. Most people want peace & human rights.

You probably disagree with me here, Israel is the civilized nation, but sadly the rhetoric a lot of Israeli's use is actually one based on their holy book saying they deserve the land & many act very racist & bigoted because of this. As long as Israel occupies arabs, there will be popular hate movements against the Jews (Israel claims to represent Jews, this is a problem), this is actually going to be a bigger problem in the future when Palestine & Israel try negotiate & live with one another.
