Professors who taught at both public and private colleges/universities, what are some of the differences you notice between students who attend public institutions and students who attend private institutions?

Obligatory not a professor but I work in Higher Education and interact with students daily. I will say that the main difference I noticed was the shear gap in professional cultural capital between the public and private world. The private school I worked at pushed career readiness from the moment students walked in the door- and they did it damn well. Those kids were extremely polished by the time they got to senior year, and were very ready to face the workforce. The public schools I worked at in contrast don't provide nearly the same career coaching, and it shows in both the students' behavior, as well as the job placement rates of seniors. Students are graduating from schools not knowing what an informational interview is or even what the difference between business casual and professional is. These things are important, but that sort of knowledge transfer isn't seen as necessary when you're just trying to scrape by on your limited government funds. If I could push one thing more in all institutions it would be career readiness. It's gotten competitive out there and our placement rates could always be higher.
