Proper merging etiquette

When they were working on the 610 to 290 exit a few years ago, I tried to be a good guy and sit there ever day in the line for 15-20 minutes to get on 290. I did it for weeks. After a while, I joined the gang of people that skipped the line of traffic and got over at the last second. I'm fully aware that I'm a piece of shit for doing it, but I wasn't going to add that extra time to my commute every day.

I say that to say this. You can ride the bumper of the person in front of you if it makes you feel like you're doing going and making a difference and sticking it to the last second mergers, but you're not. The last second merger will always get over. You're just causing yourself stress and high blood pressure worrying about it. If you don't leave enough room to let that person in, someone else will.
