A question for those of you who have infants and train

oooh good questions! As I type this my 3 month old is sitting on my lap. There are a few variables, such as proximity to your academy, the hours and number of classes available, your work schedule, your wifes work schedule, and how understanding your wife is.

I received my brown belt last December, and my baby was born in April. Not much changes during the pregnancy. I was still training 4-5 days a week, lifting weights, and competing.

When the baby was born I took about a week off from training. the wifes parents were here to help so i trained about 3 days a week. weights were replaced with calisthenics at home for more baby time.

when the parents left after 2 weeks my training went down to 2 days a week.

after 3 months my wife went back to work, and im doing daddy daycare when i dont work, so i manage to train when my wife is off and can watch the baby. so 1-2 days a week.

that answers the training load. as far as improvement, i dont feel that my skills have gotten worse, but i dont have the mat time to try new things and experiment. to keep progress I actually shifted back to a more fundamental game. Competing is out of the question.

at work 2-3 days a week I break my kettlebell out of the trunk on lunch and get a workout in. I do some pushups and pullups also.

pretty much every day, I do yoga and meditation at home. Sometimes I visualize my techniques and rolling.

my wife is also extremely understanding, but you have to decide how involved you want to be with your child. Ill sacrifice jiuitsu now to spend time with my baby. When shes older ill be able to train more.

I dont think youll regret missing jiujitsu. youll regret seeing your baby grow.
