QUESTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS THURSDAY (April 30, 2015) - Ask Questions! Get Answers!

Copied from my reply to another guy asking about the emerald archer:

For Green Arrow, I recommend that you start with Green Arrow: Year One, which is the story of Oliver Queen's time on a deserted island before he became Green Arrow. It's a great story, but to be honest, I actually like the tv show's version more because they were able to expand on it. There's this run on Green Arrow that ran for 75 issues written by Kevin Smith, Brad Meltzer, and Judd Winnick that I really enjoy. It begins with Green Arrow: Quiver, the story of Oliver Queen coming back from the dead and becoming Green Arrow again. If you ask anyone anywhere where to start with Green Arrow, they'll almost always respond with, "start with Quiver". It's followed by Green Arrow: Sounds of Violence, in which Green Arrow faces off against the vigilante-hunter Onomatopeia, a villain who hasn't appeared on Arrow and most likely won't. It's a pretty good series and has some of the inspiration for Arrow, including Deathstroke and Green Arrow's feud (which began in Identity Crisis), Brick's rise to power, Green Arrow's battle with Solomon Grundy, Green Arrow returning to the island to train, and Merlyn destroying a huge portion of Star City. It also has some characters that haven't shown up in Arrow, like Oliver's son Connor, my favorite teenage sidekick, Mia Dearden, and even the Riddler shows up every once in a while. (I would skip issues #23, #24, and #25 though since they're a crossover with Green Lantern and don't make sense unless you have the Green Lantern issues as well.) There's also Green Arrow/Black Canary, a team-up series that takes place after the 75 issue run. Half of it was written by Andrew Kreisberg, one of the showrunners of Arrow and creator of Cupid. There's also Jeff Lemire's run on Green Arrow, which are issues #17 to #34. Don't worry about the first 16 issues. They aren't very good and Jeff Lemire's run doesn't really reference them. From #35 onwards, the series is written by Andrew Kreisberg and Ben Sokolowski, who are both writers on Arrow, but most people don't think their run is as good as Lemire's.
