IDK follow your gut but it sounds like he just wanted to record the conversation to remember the conversation or details about you better, presumably because he likes you. Maybe it feels like he's trickle truthing you because he knows its weird and doesnt want to scare you off. Kinda early to read too much into it imo. In some circumstances it might come off creepy but I can imagine a circumstance where its kinda cute.

Idk maybe ive just dated too many guys where I put in all the effort, but if he's indicating he genuinely wants to hear what you have to say by not dominating the conversation then maybe hes just quirky but thoughtful. The context between the lines matters more though and we werent there
