Redditors who have decided they don't want to have children, what is your reasoning? (Serious)

I always answer the person who asks this with a sarcastic joke: you always tell your kids, "Sally" will grow up to be SO beautiful or "Tommy" is going to be SO smart... But why if my kids are dumb and ugly? It's usually followed with a chuckle and the conversation moves past.

But in all seriousness, it's a combo of 2 things. First off, pregnancy seems HORRIBLE. Now, I know my friends have those rose tinted glasses for their experience, but I don't know anyone who had one of those "glowing and smooth" experiences they tell everyone about at the party. Hell, my one friend who says that shit I distinctly remember her screaming to "get this abomination out of me" when she was only 6 months along (though, she denies it, because everything was sunshine and roses) Secondly, I just don't think babies are cute. They all look like mush, they're annoying and not worth the effort imo. I always said, if I could birth a 5 year old, maybe I'd have one. I suppose if the person I end up with really wanted a child, I could take one for the team, but he'd really gotta be something. And no, I'm not concerned who will care for me when I'm old and sick, put my ass in a home, I'll be old and sick and not care.
