Redditors who grew up with very strict parents, how strict were your parents? What rules did they have?

I didn't grow up THAT rich. I didn't live in a mansion or anything, but both my parents had pretty good jobs, and my mom came from an even more wealthy family, so my parents had their share of money. They really believed in "building character" so rather than spend that money to buy us stuff, they used it to get us involved in meaningless structure. I played organized basketball and I loved that, but I played organized baseball and I hated it. If a parent had to think about how they spent their money, they might've thought it was a waste of money to make me miserable, but they thought it was good for me. That was their sort of rules. You have to have organized commitments.
