Ron Howard's 1999 Letter to Newsweek about TPM

Ugh I've never liked any of the prequel action scenes.

There's no real sense of "progression" in any of the battle scenes. You don't really have a feel of who is "winning or losing" in any of the action shots. The action shots also don't really tell a tale of having anything at stake. No where in the entire ordeal of the ATOC battle is there any suspense. There is no climax. No where do we have any feel that the protagonists are in any danger. Hell, the battle was fought by the most forgettable and emotionally detached army you could ever imagine.... clones vs robots...

And when Yoda started his little battle dance, the people in the theater laughed. You know why? Because the fight was fucking stupid. Yoda is supposed to be a master, not an overstimulated dancing teddy bear.

Masters aren't supposed to do wasteful movements. Masters are supposed to be elegant, efficient fighters. Instead we got a show-boating, dancing, jumping raccoon who couldn't even properly finish the fight. It also seemed like Darth Tyrannus should have just chopped Yoda in half each time he did a stupid flip... you know, exactly like when Obi Wan chopped Anakin in half for his stupid flip.
