[S5][E6]Is it just me or.....

This is exactly the case. I have noticed an unusual amount of misplaced "social justice" in the George RR Martin realm for a while now. Recently, a podcast host who could never shut up about "rape" and "racism" announced that she will be starting an all new Feminist podcast.

There are so many things "wrong" with this scenario that I cant even name them all. That said, we are all aware that the show and book are FICTIONAL, right? Nobody was actually hurt! Like when Johnny Cash "shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die"....this is about a character study in a past era, and not about the 2015 problem of the desensitization of children due to hip hop and video games.

Why bend this art to somehow interact with your current social agenda? YES there are rapes in the book. There are also rapes in real life and dragons in the book. Wouldnt it be more practical to fight "rape culture" by working in real-time and in the real world (maybe volunteer at a homeless shelter) than it is to spend every sunday talking about how society is so messed up because a guy wrote a book about pre-industrial/medieval times that has rape and dragons in it? Where does this come from and how do the perpetrators not get laughed out of every discussion they enter? Why is this being entertained everywhere from Reddit to the New York Post?

Why are all of the minions in Despicable Me yellow? Is it a sign of a racist society that our Latino brothers arent better represented in Star Wars? How come old/fat black women in movies are only played by Eddie Murphy and Tyler Perry? How come Joss Whedon never produces art with "strong female characters"...and why are they so sexy/why cant they be sexy too?

All of that talk is nonsense. These are fictional characters and fictional settings. Even with that in mind, Game of Thrones is no "harsher" than our actual pre-industrial/medieval past.

Sansa would have a much better chance of maintaining her maidenhead through all of her adventures in the book/show than in real life. Any disagreement from anyone?

Would they have, in the time, considered a man and woman having sex on their wedding night to be "rape", even if the wife SCREAMED "no" and truly didnt want it? Anybody truly arguing that? Then it can only even be seen as rape if viewed through the "good morals" of a 2015 society.....a setting in which the show never takes place. This is REALLY EASY to understand, but week after week this subreddit turns into a Rape Crisis Hotline over a fictional dragon world.

Leave your politics at the door and enjoy the show....or at least let those of us who dont get politically motivated by Star Trek enjoy the show.
