San Juan mayor: 'I am begging, begging anyone who can hear us to save us from dying'

Just because I'm criticizing for your lack of sympathy in this instance doesn't mean I am making any broader accusations. I'm sure we can agree on many things, this isn't one of them. In other words, your assumption that I think in black and white because I took a black and white stance in my issue with you is unfounded.

I'm forcefully arguing that you should allow yourself to sympathize with victims regardless to the political circumstances. That's pretty nuanced IMO.

Sympathy doesn't generally have that effect as a rule.

Yes, but sympathy for an issue creates focus on it, which can in turn motivate you to actually learn more about the issue at hand. The fact that I have to soon explain that Trump doesn't care about Puerto Rican's is evidence of this.

If anything, in your quoted text from my post I would change "would" to "could".

Emotion is also the main reason why abusers abuse, and those who are abused put up with it.

And fire causes burns. Emotional bonding is the cohesion of social structure, and abuse isn't a strong enough rationale for dismantling it.
