What's scary is his support, even on this site. I get it, I really do. There's something alluring about, for a lack of a better term, the "high energy" over at /r/The_donald and I'm sure it's fun to call people cucks. But Trump is dangerous.
He's anti-science
On climate change:
and
He's also a well documented anti-vaxxer:
And in 2014 he was spouting the dangers of accepting flights from countries with Ebola victims, which ultimately turned out to be false. He went as far as to say we shouldn't even allow infected Americans back into the country:
Not only is he anti-science, he's simply anti-fact. As of last summer he still doubts Obama was born in the US, though he's yet to reveal his team's unbelievable findings about the issue from 2011. The American people deserve to know.
But this all begs the question, if he's not forming his opinions based on science and fact, how is he forming them?
He's not a moderate
I've heard countless times that "Trump is actually a moderate" and "have you actually listened to his stances?" Well I have, and they're extreme.
His supporters point to the fact that Trump has publicly defended Planned Parenthood on multiple occasions, even claiming it helps "millions of millions of women". That's great, but he still intends to defund it because they provide abortions and he's super pro-life since 2011.
He's also said he won't have Americans dying on the street, which is apparently a moderate sentiment these days, but his healthcare plan does not address how he'd do this. In fact, studies show that his plan would leave 21 million people uninsured.
And then, of course, the idea of straight up deporting 11 million Mexicans is, at the very least, radical.
He would be a disaster for foreign policy/relations
Well, I suppose it's hard to write about Trump's foreign policy since he's contradicted himself so many times.
But first, people like the fact he criticized the Iraq War, which he claims to have always opposed. Except for the fact that he supported it in 2002.
Then there's his current positions. He wants to "bomb the shit out of ISIS" and deploy 20,000 to 30,000 combat troops in the Middle East to fight them, so basically start another war. If this is news to you I understand, as he previously advocated for staying out of Syria.
Then of course there's his infamous ban on Muslims. That was also a flip flop. He initially said the US had to take Syrian migrants. But lets assume his most recent stance, of banning people from a certain religion coming to America, is his actual belief. It received international condemnation, including from Israeli President Netanyahu
Speaking of Israel, Trump is both pro-israel and wants to remain neutral in the conflict.
Also, Trump's reputation and inflammatory language will undoubtedly hurt America's image abroad.
In The UK, a petition featuring over half a million signatures prompted Parliment to debate banning Doland Trump from entering the country. British Prime Minister David Cameron said of Trump "If he came to visit our country, I think he would unite us all against him." Other MPS labeled him a buffoon, demagogue and wazzock. This is one of America's closest allies.
Also, China has been using Trump as proof that democracy doesn't work
Speaking of China, Trump has advocated a huge 45% tariff on Chinese goods. He later denied this, despite a recorded evidence of his remarks
And maybe if his behaivour doesn't alienate America, his promotion of war crimes surely will. On targeting terrorists:
And torture:
Trump wants to be a dictator
When former National Security Agency and CIA director Michael Hayden said that the U.S. military might refuse orders to commit the aforementioned war crimes, Trump responded by claiming:
He's also made some troubling remarks about free speech. On the internet:
And on freedom of the press:
He doesn't "tell it like it is"
Trump has lied. Trump has flip flopped. There's no way to reconcile those facts with the narrative that he "tells it like it is." How is he better than any other politician just because he hasn't held office?
And I know many dismiss Trump's more outlandish statements as "campaign rhetoric" or a "negotiation tactic", but how can one possibly tell the difference? If everything you agree with Trump on is his actual beliefs, and everything else is a lie, then you're deluding yourself.
