Engineers are not in the 90%, not even close. If you think about it (if you have a bit of experience with other professions, and with engineers, perhaps you don't), it doesn't make any sense that they would be. They're not top earners. Comfortable, yes. That's about it. They really don't make that much money.
What's with the $68K? Software engineers don't make a lot of money. Come on. I know that lots of people on reddit are into computer science and the like but you're all in for a rude awakening. You're not going to go from 51K to 73K in 4 years. "Engineering" is also much more than software.
He pays for things for her. That might be dinner at McDonalds instead of dinner at that fancy steakhouse, but the concept is very much the safe. She's frequently, "tired". And doesn't really care for him much beyond a paycheck.
Ridiculous. This is not life. This is not most people.
Most people don't look into settling down until they are out on their own and independent, even if they have an SO at the time. They can meet in college, but they won't get married until a few years after they graduate. That's men and women included. They're not compromising on the "sexy" because the definition of "sexy" has changed. Past flings are not necessarily more sexy than a current partner. And a past fling may not even necessarily be that sexy. Lots of people don't even have past flings. Just exes.

You can be "beta bux" at $25,000 a year. Take the example of a lower class woman with three kids that gets involved with a slightly overweight minimum wage factory worker.

Make up your mind. Either beta bucks means that women are looking for a paycheck, or it's completely lost it's meaning and both women and men are looking for stability in a relationship that could last the rest of their life. And that could very likely be with the person they've been with since they were 20 since many meet their spouses in college.
Women can and do support themselves. They don't need men to support their lifestyle. If they choose someone to settle down with, it's because of love. Not because they've sacrificed "sexy."
