Desertion should not be a capital offense, and it has not been enforced as such. 1 soldier since 1865 has been executed for desertion, which is the same number as the number of teenagers who have been arrested for making a clock. It's not a serious policy. More people have been to the moon.
America is the only country who has demonstrated an intent to use nuclear weapons. India, Pakistan, China, USSR, and France have never attacked someone with a nuclear weapon, so yes, plenty of countries have acquired nukes without the intent to use it. (No, posturing to use is not intent. USSR could easily have fired them during the Cuban missile crisis, but they obviously did not).

Yes, I'm being American by exercising my freedom of choice. I cited Locke since his writings and philosophies have influenced the foundation of a country known as the United States of America. If you don't believe in Locke you don't believe in Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams. Once I renounce my citizenship, yes, I am no longer an American. Until then, however, I am, and by demonstrating my choice to not be American I am demonstrating my American rights.
I'd defund anything which brings a negative strain on the US. i would actually defund medicare and social security because it's going broke anyways and I'd re appropriate the funds to better solve the problems they were created to tackle. but at least they serve a purpose to the US citizen, whereas the military in places like Israel and Germany do not.
