[Serious] [US] What do you wish school would've thought you that's important in your day-to-day life?

Personal finance management mostly. Also, and I think this goes for quite a few professions, high school in the US needs to be much more specialized. For instance, I am a programmer and have been since my first year of college. My high school offered nothing but a "Computer Science" class that focused on software USE, not development or programming concepts. This means that I didn't take a single class directly related to my vocation until I was 19. Luckily for me I had people close to me that were working in the field so I had some direction outside of school. This is not the case for most kids, who just follow the school curriculum blindly because they don't know any better, they don't understand that US high school is day care for young adults and nothing more. The secondary school system in the US is fucked for this reason, among others. High schools in the US have AP and IB programs, that aren't available to everyone. I'm not saying any old kid could test in to it, but the option should always be there, instead of the normally elitist attitude you get from school administrators who like to assume they know what's best for you or what you are interested in.

Like I said a lot of kids wouldn't qualify or want to be in these programs and are stuck with standard curriculum that does nothing to develop skills they will need to survive as an adult. Not all kids should be required to go to high school, those that feel they would be best suited in a trade school or apprenticeship should be free to choose that path. They shouldn't have to wade through a bunch of academic bullshit to work in a field that doesn't require a high school diploma.

A lot of readers will disagree with this, but it's my opinion and something I feel strongly about as my brother has just graduated and doesn't know what to do with his life because his high school treated him like some dipshit and not like a child who needs direction.
