Should NHS Audiology have told me that my hearing aids are logging my usage?

I've deleted my original submission because I'm frankly amazed at the lack of understanding from people whose only knowledge about this came from Google, who are making assumptions and whose uninformed view results in me being accused of making a mountain out of a molehill. I am really upset by your response and I am frankly amazed at such an uninformed and patronising view from a subreddit of this nature. I expected it to be informed, objective and legal in nature at the very least.

Using the data from my hearing aids (based on the times and programmes I use to suit various environments), it is possible for someone to ascertain what time I get up in the morning, what time I go shopping, what time I go to work, how much time I spend watching TV or playing games, and what time I go to bed. Hell, it's even possible to determine how frequently I have sex (yes, there's a specific programme for that environment too).

If you would be happy having your day-to-day existence monitored forevermore to this extent by a medical professional, good for you, but at the very least informed consent should have been requested. I was trying to glean more information out the legality of the situation but unfortunately it wasn't possible because it seems you mistook this subreddit for /r/advice.

Anyway, I'm happy to report that the Information Commissioner's Office are looking into this and I have been told that I should have given consent and I know that didn't happen. I remember vividly going deaf and having hearing aids fitting because it was a huge event in my life. For six years my usage patterns have been monitored and nobody bothered to tell me, let alone request consent and you think that's OK? Get out.
