How am I forgetting that? That happens to be exactly what I described.
My comment:
Any smartphone has several sensors, microphone, camera, gps, and any smartphone software can without much trouble be modified to send this information via data connections.
DROPOUT JEEP article:
DROPOUT JEEP is a software implant for the Apple iPhone that utilizes modular mission applications to provide specific SIGINT functionality. [...]The NSA apparently claims a 100% success rate in installing the malware on iPhones.
No, that is not exactly what you described. Not even close. Your full comment for proper context:
If you actually read the "article" it turns out this isn't what Snowden says, it's a misunderstood quote by Anatoly Kucherena, concerning that Snowden doesn't use an iPhone out of fear that it might have spying software on it - a simply case of "if it's possible why not rule out that possibility".
Any smartphone has several sensors, microphone, camera, gps, and any smartphone software can without much trouble be modified to send this information via data connections.
Using an old, simple phone without these sensors, is a very simple hardware solution to this risc.
That is not the same as saying all smartphones automatically are equipped with a backdoor to send this information to NSA.
What you implied is the NSA does not possess the capability to spy on every iPhone as stated in the article, and that Snowden would not have alluded to such, rather that every smartphone is nothing more than a potential target due to what could potentially be done with its hardware, ignoring the fact this is exactly what the NSA is already doing as described in their own leaked documents.
My full comment in response, which you have selectively quoted to erroneously claim it was "exactly" what you said, only after downvoting me for pointing out your own inconsistency:
You seem to be forgetting their DROPOUTJEEP capability: "The NSA Reportedly Has Total Access To The Apple iPhone"
From the NSA document in question:
“DROPOUT JEEP is a software implant for the Apple iPhone that utilizes modular mission applications to provide specific SIGINT functionality. This functionality includes the ability to remotely push/pull files from the device. SMS retrieval, contact list retrieval, voicemail, geolocation, hot mic, camera capture, cell tower location, etc. Command, control and data exfiltration can occur over SMS messaging or a GPRS data connection. All communications with the implant will be covert and encrypted.”
