This sub makes me afraid of actually getting to know a potential spouse...

You can’t generalize muslims all over the world by the people in this sub. It’s a really small and specific subset of muslims, mostly north American students or young professionals. You can’t even generalize for the north-American crowd using this sub, it just doesn’t make sense. Instead, take this sub as a discussion point for people of stuff they can’t talk out there or don’t have anyone to discuss with. By hearing what others have to say on various issues related to marriage I’ve found this sub to be very helpful and makes me feel more prepared for marriage.

Also, I think you live in a closed Muslim community, if you go to a diverse environment where Muslims from all around the world comes like in a prestigious university, you’ll realize how diverse Muslims are in their understanding and practice of Islam around the world. It’s not something to be afraid of, but something to cherish since Islam by nature includes and accepts these diversifies, it’s for all the people of the world.

Now if you want somebody to think exactly like you, you can just marry someone from your community, like indian or moroccan, etc.
