Right, so first and foremost, if you're going to write such drivel, try not to call him/her an idiot. Nothing in the post that you're replying to indicates a lack of intelligence (yours does though by the way), it merely presents a different set of of values and priorities than your own. But anyway, seeing as you're being so condescending, I'm gonna' go ahead and do Mr/Mrs hippie a favour and "negate" your nonsense.

unless you are an idiot, you vote in the manner that maximises your impact.

Actually, no. See, what you're doing here is, you're childishly assuming that there is some sort of intelligent way to vote, you're assuming that the function of a vote is y and only y, when it's not. One person may wish to use their vote as a protest, one may wish to use it to express values, one may wish it to form a government. None of these intentions are incorrect, and choosing one over the other does not make one an idiot. Assuming that casting a vote in a manner that you personally think illogical makes somebody an idiot, however, is a very idiotic position to hold.

I already explain why all your points are totally negated by the fact of your vote essentially comes a vote for the opposition to your views.

No, you didn't. And no, it isn't. His/her vote does not equal a vote for the opposition of his/her views, it equals a vote for his/her views. Do try to keep up. Voting for someone you only marginally approve of, rather than voting for somebody that you do approve of, because of some moronic idea that any other course of action is giving more weight to another party is ridiculous.

All that matter is that you get what you believe is in the country or your own best interest,

And what makes you the authority of what matters? Did the gods leave by some codified text at the creation of the universe? Or are you just pulling your own opinion out of your arse and presuming to impose it upon others?

you can live in your made up fairy land all you want, no one cares, because that isn't the real world.

You don't seem to have even an A level understanding of how "the system works". Now, to borrow a phrase, your point regarding who does and does not care is obviously "negated" by the fact that he or she does care, and so one can assume do others. You are not qualified to speak on behalf of everybody, or even for some people. You can speak for yourself and some people that you have met.

because that isn't the real world.

Do I even need to bother with this?
