US Suspects Russian Hackers Planted Fake News Behind Qatar Crisis

I definitely don't see a full scale gulf war happening, or Qatar really getting into any armed conflict at all. But it seems we should at least be supporting Qatar to some degree since they are such a valuable tool with al-Udeid and as a proxy for negotiation with hardline Islamist entities. Still, I know very little about this foreign policy subject so correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems although we recognize Suadi Arabia as a valuable strategic partner, Qatar is as well. We need to keep the Gulf Council unified so as to maintain an effective front against terrorist groups like ISIS, no? There is the allegation that Qatar funds al-Qaeda, but if we let this dissolve into Qatar being an Iranian puppet, that seems directly against the interests of the United States. The only alternative to that would be what you mentioned, Saudi Arabia making a power grab for Qatar, but I don't see it escalating to that extreme. Nonetheless, if the House of Saud made that move, I don't see the USA rushing to the aide of Qatari military either. That would be disastrous, so I see the point you're making that we inevitably have to be fairly ambivalent about Saudi Arabia no matter the rhetoric and president speaking it.
