I'm with SVG on this idea. I've been wanting the league to eliminate the draft for a very long time. The fact of the matter is that, with the salary cap, it would be impossible for all of the incoming high level talent to flock to just the big market teams.

SVG's idea would definitely eliminate tanking. Furthermore, it would bring hope to small market teams that, if allowed, would be able to offer more enticing contracts to incoming high-level talent.

The draft was a ridiculous idea to begin with. People should be allowed to pursue where they want to work instead of possibly being drafted by a team that they have no interest in playing for and/or a city they have no interest in living in.

Perhaps, by eliminating the draft, you'll also see the possibility of incoming players choosing to play for their hometown teams. This would also be beneficial to small market teams surrounded by lots of high level talent. Just look at the possibilities if players from the 2018 ESPN 100 chose to play closer to home. R.J. Barrett to the Raptors. Zion Williamson to the Hornets, Hawks, or Grizzlies. So on and so forth.

I really believe that eliminating the draft and modifying NBA contract rules will help bring balance to the league and improve the level of competition.
