What is your expectation? Just to be clear, you are implying you understand the cross, and it isn't enough. The cross demonstrates G-d's love for you and me and anyone. That while we had death in our hearts He died, becoming my debt so I could, through faith in Him, be seen as Him! That's GOOD news: G-d thinks you are amazing! So it's an origins debate... Atheism teaches that an infinitesimally small nothing, that was actually everything suddenly collapsed in on itself exploding, creating everything. Well, how? It seems obvious, because it is, at some point an uncreated something/someone must enter the theory/equation.
The question of why still persists...morality, purpose, and destiny are intertwined with origin and demand absolute coherent explanations. Why implies a goal, and therefore success or failure. Good or bad. Life or death. These definitions must have absolutes, and Schrödinger's cat is solved by just opening the box to see if the cat can be saved in time...hopefully
Back to the origins discussion, at some point, something happened, maybe lightning, or mutations of a crystal, or directed panspermia... and non-living stuff became primordial ooze and natural selection does its thing. Let's examine that...

I believe the man could feed tens of thousands with 5 loaves and 2 fish, raise the dead, pull jedi minds tricks and walk through angry mobs, but He couldn't take His kingdom by force like Peter wanted?
I hope you find the way to forgive G-d. It's what's actually holding you back from His love, not the evidence.
