TIL in Mandarin Chinese, the word for "kangaroo" translates literally to "bag rat"

Short story.

Also acts as a tip to any first generation Chinese people here who want to teach their parents "Fuck you" or anyone Chinese that wants to be able to properly say, "Fuck you" in English. Skip to the end if so. Must be able to speak Cantonese.

Growing up, my family faced a lot of racism. There's actually a time I remember specifically when I was about 7-8 years old with my family in Virginia Beach on vacation. We had just eaten at some place and it was late, but my brothers and I really wanted to go play minigolf. My parents were totally up for taking my brothers and I minigolfing because they're pretty great parents. This minigolf place was literally 3 blocks away and the moment we reached the end of the block we were already on, some drunk prick at the open space bar shouts out, "Fuck you, chinks! Go home!". My mom and dad were never able to respond to racist people saying, "Fuck you" because they would have the Chinese accent (like, "Fahka yoo") and people would then make fun of the way they said "fuck you" so they were just silent but my dad looked pissed. the. fuck. off. This was also the night my parents learned kids learn curse words at a very young age in the 90s. When we got back to the hotel, I taught my parents, who have a heavy Chinese accent, how to properly say "Fuck you"

In Cantonese, if you say "flower" (fah) and "bridge" (queue), it'll sound just like "Fuck you" in English.
