Our senior DS had a chat with us in the middle of our cycle last year, one day when shit seemed particularly stupid and we were all sitting on some bleachers in the rain apparently with nothing to do. our cycle was a shit show, he was apologizing for all the bullshit. He had a list of things that went wrong this cycle, starting with that the whole cycle was supposed to cancelled and they kept it last minute, so were short on time, the DSs didn't get a standard break, got last pick of all range times, chow times, equipment, everything. lastly, he said a lot of the DSs didn't want to be there because they shook up the DS platoon assignments after too many fails/quits/complaints in the cycle before hand. there were clear personal conflicts between half the DSs. So yeah, apparently it looks bad on the group of DSs and the 1SG if too many people quit. We had way more kids quit than I ever imagined in my cycle, too, so i doubt it was any better than the last. they were scrambling our entire final FTX to get probably 20 kids to pass the damn final blue phase test. the whole thing made me have genuine sympathy for most of the DS, the whole unit there at Jackson seemed like it was toxic, everyone was unhappy and hated their jobs and just about none of them tried to hide it from the privates.
