Trump fires Comey

Okay so I have a few questions / concerns about this firing. First of all I know Comey made some pretty bad mistakes when he announced publicly that he reopened the email investigation, but overall he seemed very fair and very intelligent. So my question is why would Trump fire him now for that if he has been in power for almost five months now? I feel like if Trump really wanted to fire him he could have done it much sooner. I don't want to spread conspiracy theories or anything but it does seem rather strange that this happened while Comey was investigating the Trump-Russia link.

Also what happens next? I know Trump gets to pick the next FBI director, I just really want him to pick someone fair. If the next FBI director stops the Trump-Russia investigation and then tries to get Hillary arrested wouldn't that be a travesty for our political system? I don't really care who becomes the next FBI director as long as they are fair and won't just close an on going investigation because they don't agree with it. I don't want them to stop investigation the Trump-Russia links until they can say with confidence that there was no connection what so ever, stopping it before then is just wrong and it makes the entire country look bad.
