This is so disconcerting. It's looking likely that the American people will put a shrewd and cruel businessman in the office. A man who has spent an entire lifetime exploiting and stepping on other people to line his own pockets. A man who has used languages and attitudes that have stirred up racists and xenophobes.

And it's honestly the democrats fault for running someone with such a slim chance of winning. Regardless of how you feel about Hillary: Even if 0% of the stuff presented about her is true it's 100% real in the minds of so many Americans. At this point it doesn't matter how much of it is actually real. What matters is that the Republicans have spent millions upon millions of dollars and countless hours demonizing her and it's stuck in the minds of the American people.

I'm not saying it's all wrong: I'm saying it doesn't matter if it is or isn't. So much over the past few years has been put into making her seem a villian in the minds of the American people. A capable candidate who polled as trustworthy would be a rallying point for people who want to fight against bigotry and xenophobia and sexism.

Imagine a female candidate in this race who didn't have the tainted record and controversy that Clinton has. People would be enthusiastic and excited about the prospect of putting a woman in office. But people don't see Hillary as an exciting woman candidate. They see her as just another corrupt Washington politician. I think there's a ton of misinformation floating around about her but it's all stuck to the consciousness of American voters.

The Dems really shot themselves in the foot with this one and I'm not looking forward to 4 years (or more) of Trump in office if it happens.
