Yeah I don't know wtf is going on here, it's not like I'm saying you should just let the person beat you up. Just don't go overboard when it comes to defending yourself, to the degree that you break a girl's jaw and "knock her teeth out". That type of shit ain't acceptable no matter what, excluding if she has some sort of weapon like a bat or knife. I think a lot of the naysayers just aren't mature enough yet to have perspective or empathy for others. People have bad days, people get drunk and start fights, you don't need to ruin their lives and put them in the hospital for it.

When I was younger I used to get in fights once in a while, I was almost eager for someone to start talking shit. I never really started fights but I'd be lying to say I never escalated the situations. Everything changed one night when me and a pretty good friend were arguing about something, I forget what, he was just really drunk, depressed for some reason, (I think he just broke up with his girlfriend or something,) so he was trying to start shit and in general had a self-destructive attitude. well long story short we started wrestling, I clocked him good right in the jaw, he bit the tip of his tongue off, chips a few teeth and had a fucked up jaw for a couple months afterwords. I regretted it almost immediately and felt horrible about it. I could have easily just tackled him and subdued him since he was so drunk... What really changed my outlook, though, was a few years ago a kid was trying to start shit with a buddy of mine, using racial slurs and shit... well, my buddy popped the kid in the side of his head, hitting that sweet spot, knocking him out cold. The kid collapsed backwards, hitting his head on a stone bench, killing him instantly. Ever since then I've had a lot more respect for how easy it is to seriously injure or kill a person and since then don't really get in fights anymore, I always try to deescalate the situation and if it comes down to it I'll try to subdue the kid until he calms down.
