Valery Gergiev, a Russian maestro and prominent supporter of President Vladimir Putin of Russia, was removed from his post as chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic after he refused to denounce Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

I have a right not to give money to people I disagree with. His employer has a right to not have people representing them who don't represent their values. Cancel culture isn't a thing for people who already have an audience. Cancel culture is just the free market. The only "cancel culture" there is, is when someone says one shitty thing on the internet and people dig up their place of work and start harassing them when they never were the face of anything and there are probably countless other employees who believe that. Digging into a grunts personal life to get them fired is probably too far but even then, they chose to do whatever it is and put it out there. I have an issue with digging up old comments if behavior has actually changed but thats the only issue with it. The only power people have is their voice and wallets. I won't fault them or call it "cancel culture" when they exercise. Before the internet we called it a boycott.
