I’ve been trying to adopt since 2018 and I’m nearly through with these so-called “rescues”. How long did it take you to adopt? [Discussion]

They're so fussy at humane societies, not good enough, wouldn't be surprised if they started demanding blood tests. Good/great families are passed on for having some flaw. Not to mention, the prices are very high now as well, paying the price for a mixed dog you'd pay for a pure bred, damn close to it anyway. I decided we weren't going to deal with them anymore and high standards. I went to a breeder for the rat terrier, she's 10 now, weird to think how fast time goes. Got the pug mix and the beagle off different craigslist years apart, pug mix was 7, he's now 13 and has had a few surgeries, beagle was 10 months and is now 9, they all get daily walks, shots (regular vet appts), have food, get groomed, attention, the softest places on the couch or in bed, and they have toys. Our animals are permanent members of the family, it's always been that way, they'll be here until they die, like the others. I remember one woman taking us into a separate room and saying a dog we were interested in wouldn't be a good fit because it had energy. Guess an energetic dog can't be played with, or go on walks? This was a decade ago, but I will never go to the humane societies again. They kept turning us down, they didn't when I was younger, so maybe the rules changed or something. Craigslist is good, but so are ads in the paper. Could spread the word that you're looking, people will let you know if they hear something.
