First of all, I'm somali-european and not american. There is no black american culture for me to co-opt. I'm saying that blaming madow culture will not solve the problems because somalis underperform in Europe too where that mentality doesn't exist. So the problem has to be something other than madow culture. I said somalis cannot be compered to nigerians, which is just facts.I never said they should be compared to black americans because that is a different struggle. I'm telling you the truth, educated parents= educated children(look at the studies). Nigerians have a higher quality of education and are more involved in their childrens school work than somalis. That is why they do better. Somali parents are the ones who can't speak the language, can't help their children with home work, don't tell them to read for fun and do not instil discipline from a young age about school work. The solution is changing these things. Are you really trying to say that there is no difference in mentality when you have parents who came to a country for a better life compared to parents who came to survive? Since you think somalis in the US are higher educated than the ones in Europe, than why hasn't any other genius thought of not pretending to be madow? Maybe because it's more complicated than that.

I disagree about somalis valueing deen over education. How come then the only somalis I have met that have finished the quran have lived in Birmingham or an arab country? Somalis here do dugsi 4hours/week, giving them plenty of time to study but still underperform. Our generation in Europe is more religious than our parents generation . North american somalis are the least religious, just look at the vice dixon documentary. Somalis that are excited about atheism live in the US. In europe that is the norm so it isn't that interesting.

I know about Hamilton because of the internet. It's funny how you're mad about SJW but they are the same people that love Lin-Manuel. They can always log off tumblr and see that no somali guy has ever called them ugly. Looking for acceptance from others is unnecessary when you're considered good looking by your own community. In my experience, somalis in Europe only marry each other because we're connected to the culture while most somali canadians can't even speak the language.
