What abortion ban? GOP candidates abruptly ditch long-held positions in post-Roe scramble. With abruptly scrubbed websites and "well, actually" op-eds, anti-abortion Republicans claim they never meant it

This article is some bullshit. The GOP rhetoric hasn’t changed where they are stepping backward. They are still very much anti abortion, it’s just that they are no longer on the offensive.

Here is an example:

Salon: “Despite referring to Roe v. Wade as a "joke" and saying it was "sad" that Nevada is not an anti-abortion state, Laxalt published an op-ed in the Reno Gazette Journal earlier this month, declining to support a nationwide abortion ban and saying the choice should be left to voters.”

Op-Ed: “This unconscionable position of killing a full-term baby is indefensible, so naturally, Cortez Masto and her allies are spending millions of dollars in campaign ads trying to deflect from it and make you believe in a falsehood that I would support a federal ban on abortion as a U.S. senator, or that I am somehow “anti-woman” because I value, support and defend life at all stages. Much of my life has informed that view, including, among other things, being born to a young single mother who chose not to abort me, being a father of four, and my Christian faith. For my entire adult life, I have held the view that the Supreme Court should return the issue of abortion to the people and let them decide the issue on a state-by-state basis.”
