What are the different types of horror and what are some examples?

Well when you put all horror movies into 4 categories (as the link I replied to did), it's not going to be extremely helpful in finding movies that are similar to what you like, as it will always be too broad.

That's because the link put them into subgenres as well. "Zombie" is a subgenre of horror. As is "Supernatural". The list was lacking a few, like Body horror.

The categories I suggested are based on the conduct of the protagonist,

IMO horror fans don't care about the protagonist. But that's also not how genre works at all. We do genres based on the content or conflict. Science fiction is not dictated by the protagonist's actions, it's whether we're in the future or there's some sort of technological speculative element. Regardless of how your protagonist acts, if there's dragons and elves, it's going to be called fantasy.

It may work for you, but it's not going to be useful when talking to other horror fans. Other horror fans understand what the subgenres of horror are. Body horror and splatterpunk are established parlance. Making up your own categories isn't too useful for someone else who is asking what the existing categories are.
