3 years ago I was on my way home from the casino with my best friend. We were both three sheets to the wind. (Side note: we were renting a place together at the time.)

Anyway, he decides he's hungry and wants McDonalds so we stop there before going home. I wasn't hungry at all so I stayed outside to have a cigarette. At some point between standing in line and ordering he gets into a verbal altercation with 3 guys. He comes out and the 3 follow him. It seems like it's about to escalate.

Now, I'm not a small guy and I can hold my own but I still hate to fight. Especially when I'm shitfaced. So being the diplomat, I somehow manage to talk everyone down in my drunken stumper. Now, here comes the shitty part.

For whatever reason and without warning, my best friend decides to reach over my left shoulder and throw a hook into one of the guys face. Ok, it's game time. Except... in the corner of my eye I see my friend running for his life. By the time I managed to square up on the 4 of them and throw my fists up I had already caught a flurry of fists to my face. I managed clock one of them real good but suffice to say, I had the absolute shit kicked out of me that night. The entire left side of my face was destroyed. The manager of the McDonalds came running out screaming and they fled. He asked me if he should call the cops, I told him to fuck off and I walked home.

I got in the apartment and my friend was already home. When he saw my face he just started laughing. I was too drunk and in pain to start another fight. I moved out a few months later to his bewilderment.

He never apologized or even acknowledged that night, to this day. I lost every shred of respect for him that night.
