this was a few decades ago, i was a little boy taking a walk through my town just after the rain had stopped. i noticed a lot of earth worms were out on the sidewalks, dozens, many had already been stepped on.. so i would pick up any that i saw still alive and throw 'em in the dirt. i did this for a few blocks.
there was an old man at the top of the road who watched me the whole way, and he stopped me. he told me that he watched me for the last few minutes, and it made him very happy. he told me i had a very kind heart.
i remember at the time being a bit embarrassed knowing he saw me touch all those worms lol. but i still think about that a lot.
