So, what does everyone here think about Battlefront?

Just so you know my bias up front, here's my background; I'm a massive Star Wars fan, played both the previous Battlefronts, and I don't really do online shooters that much. I don't really have the time or the patience to play online shooters hours at a time learning every bit of strategy, as I typically use those hours I have on single player RPG's. I've played a ton of Team Fortress 2 and Halo online, and recently I really found myself drawn to Titanfall for how accessible and fun it is. It's a game I can throw in, play a few matches and not die every second, get some exhilarating moments out of it, and then drop out of it.

For me, Battlefront is perfect because it follows in that vain. It's super quick and accessible to jump in, find a match, blast some rebel scum, and just have a fucking HOOT. There IS a high skill ceiling, if you look for it (the K/D count on some people is ridiculous) but the game is "simple" enough that even my girlfriend (who NEVER does FPS games) played some couch co op with me and really liked it. And the production values are just amazing. It clearly feels like a game made by Star Wars fans for Star Wars fans, in that they get every little detail right looks/sounds wise (aside from the hero voices, those are god awful). As someone who likes to play games to escape my every day monotony, it feels amazing to run around in such a realized, polished Star Wars environment. More then that though, it nails the feeling and the spectacle of Star Wars; and as a result, it's super exhilarating.

The various game modes are really fun, with Walker Assault and the Droid Capture ones being my favourites. However I will agree that as of right now, some of these gameplay options can feel shallow. For a guy like me who will average a couple hours a week at most, it's perfect, but I couldn't see myself playing it day after day for hours and hours on end. I put about 2 hours into it last night and 4 hours tonight, and I already need to take a break and play some Fallout or something, though bear in mind that I also felt the same way after trying Halo online so it may also be a personal taste thing. The customization elements are pretty basic, which is disappointing; I was looking forward to mix and matching Stormtrooper helmets, or unlocking different colour schemes to paint on armour. It's those sort of things that would give the game more depth, and I'm hoping future DLC addresses. Basically I think DICE's support for the game with DLC is gonna determine the legs the game has.

TLDR; Its a highly polished, exhilarating escape in the world of Star Wars with accessible gameplay, but a disappointing lack of customization options. For a huge Star Wars fan who plays online FPS games casually, it was worth every penny; for anyone else, it might not be.
