We need more and more individuals capable of critical thinking that are less willing to engage concepts that can easily be disproven by ones self.

Just seems like a great way to divide and conqer, while distracting and at the same time sapping off support for other concepts such as the awakening itself.

They are attempting to get people to distance themselves from each other and certain notions by attaching them to something irrational.

I also don't know ANYONE in real life who brings this this topic up to do anything except complain about those who believe in it.

It's gaining traction mainly by those who don't have any stake in the notion giving it a larger platform for discussion.
