What made you jump ship from supporting Gamergate?

On principle I never involved myself with GG because online activism tends to be muddled with misinformation or pointless so it seems to be wise to stay out of it. I do however love video games so I was interested to see how the whole thing panned out. The idea of better ethics in video games appealed to me after incidents like the GameSpot Kane and lynch fiasco and I was initially excited for better changes. Then I learned that this was not the major focus. The first big target was a free indie that got almost no coverage, some of the biggest people in gamer gate are NOT gamers themselves, and all the discussion seems to be about the never ending gaming "culture war". Put this dishonest smokescreen on top of some of the vile threats idiots have made and this was not the type of movement I wanted to be a part of in any way shape or form.

That being said I'd hardly consider myself part of Ghazi or similar to any of it's users. I'm not involved in any type of social justice, I'm one of the cis-het white guy stereotypical gamers, and I tend to enjoy more traditional skill based games rather than experimental emotional experiences. I'm also not big on the "ban those who don't follow our mindset" rules here at Ghazi and when I saw people posting that they wished TB would "get killed by cancer" I realized this isn't the place for me either.

I'll still likely follow all the drama around GG despite how depressed it seems to make me because I believe it's important to seek out opinions from those who challenge your viewpoints but I'd really rather not become more than an observer lest I get swept up into the extreme hate that seems to surround the topic at large.
