Wow, I am so late. So, it was senior year. I was one of your typical overachievers-- in student government, had straight A's, won scholarships, was an officer in multiple clubs, etc. I was also a really petite, soft-spoken young girl (still am, I guess).
My boyfriend was a bit older than me, but had been held back to junior year because of poor grades. I'll call him Ben. He had scars on his knuckles from knocking so many dudes' teeth out. He was 6'4, a football player (until they kicked him off the team), and was constantly being sent home from our high school or arrested for drugs or trespassing or driving drunk or stealing... the list goes on and on. I wore cardigans and heels to school and was a student rep at school faculty meetings, and Ben knew the disciplinary secretaries at our school so well that they literally were concerned if they didn't see him every week or so. He got in trouble a lot, but he was actually pretty charismatic and they loved him. But he would still get sent to them incessantly. We were complete opposites.
During our senior year, we had a gym class together. That's when we let it be known that we were dating. My friends were appalled, but he sold them all weed and Adderall on the DL, so they didn't care too much. Haha.
The one person who did care was the Coach. He was our head gym teacher, and he had a weird obsession with me. Everyone knew that he was into high school girls; he had been reprimanded for being touchy-feely and texting students on his personal cell phone. Every class, he would flirt with me a bit, but I didn't respond much. Coach and Ben hated each other. Ben had gotten kicked out of class for calling him fuckface or something, before.
One day, we were all stretching before we broke up into teams to play volleyball. I was bending over, and my boyfriend was a few feet away, stretching as well. Coach walked behind me, and according to Ben, was gaping at my ass and my legs. Ben stood up and walked towards him. He said something along the lines of "Stop looking at my girl," and everyone (a class of about 75 teenagers) stopped stretching and looked at him.
Coach turned to me and said, "You're dating this asshole?" I said, "Yes, I'm dating this asshole." Ben and the Coach got into this screaming match. I prayed to god that it wouldn't get physical, and it didn't. But everyone in our class watched as the Coach screamed at my boyfriend, "You don't deserve her! It makes me vomit to see you holding hands with her! She's an angel!" And on and on. He ranted for about five minutes about me, while his face was bright red, and it was extremely creepy.
The thing that made it awkward was, from that day, everyone thought I was banging my gym teacher and Ben made him jealous.
