What social norm is actually really messed up?

Fully expect disagreement here, but 'having children' at all is my messed-up social norm.

Creating new life without its ability to consent, exposing it to an extraordinarily unsafe world, signing them up for hundreds of thousands of hours of work and the guarantee of age-related entropy and death and the probability of watching their loved ones wither and die without any reasonable option to leave if they don't like being alive - seems to me an incredible burden to give.

Having kids is often mainly a selfish expression of our survival instinct and social pressure - even good parents have brought a person into a world where 50% of people get cancer alone. I don't expect people to agree though.
