But for me, it works really well to have a solid image in my head full to the brim with all the senses that I can sort of inhabit. Then I just ask: 1. how did this happen?/What led to this point? 2. Where does this end? 3. How do I describe it? And I do.

A prof once told me, for editing, to removed everything until it was ready to fall apart, there's a lot to be learned from her statement. Just like crafting a good delivery, you want the correct words, in the correct order, with the least amount of distraction to cut directly to the end. On one you want a laugh as a pay off, on the other, you really want any emotion that is germane to that piece.
