What is something people do in public that gets under your skin?

What's rude is to make noise in an otherwise quiet location, and to expect the people around you to pretend they haven't heard.

The only context where that isn't rude is when the bystanders are subordinates in a workplace. You're treating the people around you like servants. There's nothing inappropriate when someone who isn't your subordinate points out that problem politely.

And if you talked back to me that way while you're creating a disturbance in a retail business, my next move would be a quiet word with the manager. You might call that a Karen move yet the odds are dollars to donuts the manager would instruct you to quiet down or leave.
