In what way are women in the U.S. held back?

Then why are you so opposed to my suggestion that society is influencing them, if you have no opinion of your own?

From my personal experience I didn't feel like anything pressured me to do anything. I did what I wanted to do.

Do you think it's unlikely that society is influencing these women? If not, do you have a better explanation for more Scandinavian women going into powerful careers, or fewer Mexican women doing the same?

Potentially different countries have cultural values that affect the direction women take. It could also be biological with women not desiring a leadership role as strongly as men.

If you agree that society is driving these women away from powerful careers, do you agree that it's worthwhile to critically examine why this is, and, if warranted, try to change?

Potentially. But the issues are so complex it makes it hard to determine. These issues could be rooted in deeper psychological inclinations dating back to the evolution of humans.

Do you believe that subconscious ideas can affect people?

I understand that certain ways ideas are presented to people can be used to influence them. But further of that I don't believe there is some systematic approach from people to oppress others. People just look for validation in their actions.

I don't disagree; I'm asking why this is. I believe society is pushing women away from these careers, and towards careers like teaching or hairdressing. You seem to disagree. Why do you disagree? What do you believe?

I believe society which is 50% female allows people the freedom to choose and most people follow people they identify with and their is nothing wrong with their choices as long as they are happy and content.

I'm a man.

I assumed you where a women sorry about that. That point was meant to get women who are disappointed about lack of representation to reflect on why this might be the case based on their own lives.
