In what ways have you won and lost the genetic lottery?

Won:

  • Resistance to disease. I've never had the flu and the last time I had a cold was in 2003, and I'm being serious. It's cool since "sick days" don't keep me in bed and I have to use them anyway.

  • Longevity. We all live into our 90s or 100s or even 110s and surprisingly remain pretty darn coherent and active.

  • Intelligence. Literally everyone in my family is highly intelligent so I inherited that which has opened quite a few opportunities for me in life.

Lost:

  • I'm short. This is definitely a loss most of the time, but I can drive any car and fit comfortably in coach on an airplane, both of which I would trade in a second for some height.

  • Poor eyesight. It's not debilitating or severe or anything, but I'd rather not have to deal with glasses and contacts on a daily basis.

  • In a way, heightened sense of smell. I can smell things my friends can't. I can tell if the dog has crapped on the floor from across the house and have to mentally prepare myself to pick it up without vomiting. When I lived in NYC, trash day in the summer was a constant struggle to keep breakfast down.
