What in your opinion is the best 3rd person open world video game?

Yakuza is not like GTA in any shape or form. Describing it like that is one of the reasons SEGA's marketing sucked for the games. Yakuza 4's trailer is complete, 100% bullshit and it's ridiculous they ever went through with this.

What is Yakuza? Is it a Metroidvania? Is it a 4X space sim? A procedurally-generated loot fiesta? No, it's a fucking open world third person action game set in a city where you run missions and play silly, entertaining minigames.

How do you describe games to someone unfamiliar with them? By comparing and contrasting them with more well-known titles. "Sort of like GTA" works fine to let them know the general structure of the Yakuza series.

The best description for the slot cars is: trial and error until you win. That's all there is to it. Vague descriptions of what happens in minigames instead of what you actually do in them (button mash, rng, simple grind, whatever) aren't helpful at all.

If you're unsatisfied with the game description, that's fine. How about instead you offer what you feel is a more constructive description? All I see you doing is taking the piss and nitpicking.

I never get this argument. Nier operates fine, it doesn't even have huge performance issues like Drakengard 3 does. It's a barebones combat system but that's what 99.99% of ARPGs have anyway. Automata doesn't do much about the combat at all, it's just as basic only with higher (variable) framerate and even less enemy variety and overall pretty boring bosses.

Nier's combat is functional, much moreso than Drakengard's, certainly. It still compares unfavorably to well-developed combat engines like God of War, Bayonetta, or a bunch of other third-person action games, or any game on this list.
