What's something your employer did that instantly killed employee morale?

Worked for a cell phone company. When I started there everyone was on minimum wage + commission. It was a great incentive because obviously the more you sell, the more commission you make. The higher ups were always telling us “you can give yourself a raise by selling more”. Well suddenly they decided to switch from commission to a compensation plan, really hyped it up and made it sound so great. If you were at one of the few top tier locations you would probably actually make some money from it, but it also maxed out with a maximum bonus you could make, so the high performing people started making way less money. I however was at a lower tier location that was extremely slow meaning it would be impossible for me and my store to ever hit bonus and earn the same amount we were earning before. The best part about this compensation plan was there were multiple categories of sales you had to hit to bonus, and if you didn’t hit certain categories then it negatively impacted the ones you did hit and took away money, it was total BS. Slowly we would figure out how to maximize in certain areas and make somewhat of a bonus, and then the company would restructure the comp plan and screw us over all over again. I finally quit when we had a new district manager take over our region and offer me the manager position of my store. I was stoked, then a week later she tells me that she can’t actually make me the manager since she has no experience with me (because she had just taken over our region, I had been a solid employee for 3+ years and our previous DM told her how great of a salesperson I was) and that she is opening the position for outside hires, but if I do a good job as acting manager then she would consider keeping me. I was still okay with this, figured I just needed to prove myself and started getting the store in tip top shape and coming up with ideas to help motivate my coworkers and then she calls (can’t even be bothered to come to my location) and basically tells me that no matter what I won’t become the manager, she’s actually promoting someone from one of her old stores and he will be taking over, but then offered me the assistant manager position. And as the AM she would expect me to do all the things the manager would typically do until the new manager could start (including weekly manager meetings two hours away), and all that at $1 more an hour than I was currently making. I told her no way, and then gave her my two weeks notice about a week later when I got a new job offer.

TLDR; company screwed is over with comp plan. Then DM screwed me over by offering manager position then changing mind.
