In most first world countries anyone turning left who gets in an accident is automatically at fault. Even if someone hits you from behind.
I was turning left years ago and a cop hit me from behind, he was speeding without his lights on and passed 5 cars behind me so I didn't see him as I turned left into a parking lot. It was a single lane of traffic as well.
I was charged with an unsafe left turn by his supervisor who came to investigate since the cop in the accident is not allowed to.
I thought it was bullshit so I took it to court and lost. Judge said anyone who makes a left hand turn needs to make sure they are doing it safe regardless of any circumstances and is at fault. It was also a judge known for not siding with the police so I know it wasn't just buddies covering for each other.
It's another one of those laws where 99% of the time it makes sense but if you're that 1% then fuck you.
