Who are some people who are celebrities within their particular field, but entirely unknown to the general public?

I admit, mostly on reddit, but it just gave me flash backs of the community IRL when I went to a few tournaments.
The community on reddit seems to be very against people who rekindled their joy for the came from the doc. The term 'documentary fag' is thrown around a lot. Which brings another topic, the homophobic and sexist comments.
This was actually brought up by the documentary, which made me respect it a lot. In fact, the documentary did not shy away from any aspect of the game, and was very thorough, which is why it is 4 hrs long. Comments like "rape" and "fag" are thrown around in pretty much any gaming community, but the smash one seems to be the most resistant in acknowledging that it is a problem. Even when girl gamers IRL, and iirc, a girl in the doc itself mentioned this was an issue, everyone brushes it off as a none issue.
There is also this strong need to be acknowledged as a real sport and not be viewed as nerds. I agree that like chess, this is a truly mental sport and players should be respected as such. However, on smash boards, reddit, and a little IRL (again, some experience, but limited), the need is so strong, they actively belittle people who portray that nerdy persona (for example M2K). However, IMHO, player Mango seemed like the only normal player. Yeah he liked to drink, party, was a bit wild, but nothing that would make anyone outside of a gaming community think he was out of control. Yet online people like to talk about how he was a 'drunk' and made him sound like he was shooting up before matches or something.
I also met Ken on a tournament once. We hosted a tournament as a fundraiser and he came in and swept the whole thing. It really would not have mattered if he was graceful about it. He was kind of a dick, complaining about how the prize money was too low, complained about our style of tourney (single elimination at the time), and just walked away with his friend when people wanted to talk to him. I didn't know who he was, and didn't care that he beat everyone, but if you want to be liked, at least acknowledge some of your fans. In the documentary when he came up all crying about how no one liked him and so on, I was not surprised at all.

Anyways, the game overall is pretty fun. I like to play with falco, but my main is game and watch.
