It was the first job I ever had in the US when I was 18/19. I speak English fluently, but not the US dialect, so my manager (who was only a few years older than me) would constantly berate me and act like I was the dumbest person in the whole world for saying things differently than how he would. For example, one day I said "Oh no, I'm after forgetting my charger!" In Irish-English, that's a totally acceptable way of saying "I forgot my charger/I've forgotten my charger." If he asked me what I meant, I would have clarified, but he just started demanding to know how I managed to get into this country if I can't even speak English and my IQ must be in the single digits because everyone knows that's not correct English. If he thought I was in any way embarrassed, offended, insulted or upset at his lectures, he would saying "Jeez, what's wrong with you? Why can't you take a joke? Lighten up, god, not everything is so serious." He was a complete asshole who got way too drunk at the office Christmas party and tried to feel me up. I quit very shortly afterwards.
