[Wojnarowski] Thunder are playing a long-game unseen in recent NBA history: Seven additional first-round picks lined up through 2026 -- plus four pick swaps -- via deals for Paul George and Chris Paul.

ELI5 how all these extra first picks are going to work out? All the analytics show that drafting late (20-30) in the first round you are most likely looking for a role player and someone that will hopefully be in the league in 5 years. They are tanking so their own picks will be in the lottery but at least for the next few years Houston, Denver, and LAC should all be playoff teams with bad pick spots. It’s Bette than nothing and honestly the best value of the picks are to make future trades rather than cornerstone players. I just feel like I’m missing something and don’t understand the hype behind drafting late in the first round. This year so many teams were trying to get rid of late 1st rounders and 2nd round picks.
