[WP] Someone doing the right thing for the wrong reasons clashes with someone doing the wrong thing for the right reasons

"Which way?" Aron asked, panicky eyes darting from side to side. The walls of the tunnel seemed to be growing tighter and the light more dim. Ahead, Jakob raised a finger to his lips, urging silence. Their footsteps echoed down the narrow passage, answered by the scurrying of rats. Aron kicked out as he felt something brush his leg and cursed as his foot landed in a puddle of water. The tunnel forked ahead of them, he could tell by the light of the swaying lamp Jakob carried. He paused for a moment before taking the leftmost path, tilting his head to indicate that the group should follow.

"This way," he said gruffly, waving them forwards. Aron shielded his eyes from the lamp, his eyes accustomed to the darkness. As he walked past, Aron felt a steely grip on his arm. He turned towards Jakob's grey eyes. "I have increased the price," he stated leaving no room for discussion. "Five hundred per person." Aron glared at him.

"That's nearly twice what it was when we left." Jakob shrugged, turning back towards the direction they came from. "Fine," Aron said with resignation. "Twenty-five hundred." The man smiled, gold teeth glistening in the light of the lamp.

"I knew we would agree."

They kept walking as the tunnel grew more narrow until they were crawling. Jakob crawled behind them and Aron shuddered at the thought of the treacherous man behind them. The tunnel began to slope upwards and soon they came across a ladder. Jakob grunted a command and they paused, allowing him to squeeze through. His lifeless eyes stared at each of them in turn as he approached the ladder until he finally grinned as he reached it. "Ready for freedom?" he asked and Aron nodded excitedly in spite of telling himself to keep calm.

The latch above them opened and sunlight came pouring in, blinding them. Strong arms pulled them from the pit and Aron stumbled to his feet, shielding his eyes. "Freeze," he heard someone shout and he squinted, trying to find his bearings. Before him stood a squad of armed men, the police emblem blazoned across their chests. His head dropped and he felt a tear roll down his eye as he looked to his wife and the three children. Jakob was laying face down on the ground, his hands cuffed behind his back. "Follow me," the police captain commanded but Aron didn't move.

"Where?" he asked, despair setting in.

"You'll be sent back. We will keep your family together and you may keep your belongings."

Aron shook his head, lowering his arms. The nearest officer flinched and raised his gun, directing his hands upwards again. "We can't go back, they'll kill us. We need help."

The captain shrugged, turning away. "I'm sorry. I do as I'm told."
